FASHION!!
Ten (10) style rules that make the fashion world go round.
1. ACCESSORIES: LESS = MORE
Take one pair of denims and a plain white vest. Now add a pair of heels and it completely transforms the look. The trick with accessorising is not to overdo it. The right shoes will make (or break) your outfit.
2. MONEY CAN NOT BUY YOU TASTE
Do not go overboard on designer tags..as clichéd as it sounds - you do not have to flash the cash to be stylish.
3. KEEP IT CLASSIC
Timeless classics will never go out of fashion. Whether it is a plain white T-shirt or your favourite pair of faded Jeans, these are style staples that look great season after season. In terms of investment pieces think classic black dresses, handbags etc.
4. KEEP SOMETHING BACK
Do not let it all hang out. "If you are wearing a top that reveals a lot of cleavage, cover your legs". Equally, if you are wearing a mini, wear it with a loose-fitting top.
5. GOOD FIT
Trousers that are too tight will create the dreaded look. Always dress to flatter your figure.
6. DO NOT BE A SLAVE TO FASHION
Just because a certain outfit looks great on someone else, it does not mean it is going to look great on you. Dedicated "fashion-following" is exhausting, expensive and not very imaginative. Far better to invest in classic pieces (see rule 3) and update your wardrobe in small doses. And never sacrifice your own style for fashion. If your instinct tells you a trend is wrong, you will never feel really comfortable in it.
7. WHAT IS INSIDE IS THAT WHICH COUNTS!!
What is on the inside shapes what is on the outside. Stand in front of a long length mirror and critique your outfit - "if you can see a VPL so can everyone else".
8. GOOD GROOMING
Dirty/greasy hair, dirty nails, and straggly eyebrows = not a good look. Practice an emergency up-do for bad hair days/hideous days and keep a nail file and tweezers in your make-up purse so you can groom on the move. Regularly audit footwear and get those scuffed mules reheeled before it is too late. Finally strike up a friendship with your local dry cleaner and negotiate a loyalty discount.
9. CREATE YOUR OWN SIGNATURE STYLE
Ensure that your look remains uniquely ours, go with your instinct!!. Fashionably Vintage has more ideas. Buying clothes abroad and customising your clothes also puts an individual stamp on your style.
10. BEING AWARE IS MORE CRUCIAL THAN WHAT YOU WEAR!!
FINALLY A WORD OF PERSPECTIVE. We all love clothes however, there is more to life! What we wear does not define who or what we are. AS OBVISIOUS AS IT MAY BE TO SOME, the things that show your spirit do not come on a hanger. A laugh with your mates, an intelligent debate, a hug, a genuine smile… these are the beautiful things.
BEAUTY!
CLEANSE: Use a cleanser that suits your skin type. Oily skins may benefit from a foaming cleanser while dry skin types often require a cream cleanser. Gently massage the cleanser into your face to remove all of the day´s dirt and makeup, then rinse it all off. Do not use soap to cleanse your face as it is drying and could clog your pores, leading to spots.
Make sure that you read the label of your cleanser and ensure that it suits the type of skin you have. Also, if you can, invest in a good natural cleanser that does not contain all of the chemicals that many of the cheaper brands have in them. "You ca not expect a glowing complexion to come out of a £2 bottle, can you"?
TONE: After cleansing your face, applying some toner will remove the last traces of cleanser that the water has not washed off. A lot of reports claim that toning is pointless and perhaps even harmful to your skin (depending on the toner that you use), but if you are intent on toning, make sure you buy a good quality product that is alchohol-free. "You could even try and make one yourself by dipping a piece of cotton wool into a water and lemon or water and tea tree oil mix".
MOISTURISE: Apply your moisturiser with gentle motions, make sure you do not pull or tug at your skin, especially around the delicate eye area where you could cause irreparable damage. Moisturising is extremely important (for all skin types, including oily) as , besides the obvious fact of helping skin retain the moisture it needs, it also forms a protective barrier between your skin and the environment, and helps prevent premature ageing due to dryness. "Choose a rich cream moisturiser if you have a drier skin type, or an oil free version if you have oily skin".
EXFOLIATE: A weekly exfoliation will uncover fresh new layers of skin, which becomes increasingly important as you age because the skin slows down its natural shedding process. Exfoliating your skin will help to get rid of dull dead skin cells, leaving you with a healthy glow. "It also prevents pore blockages by dead skin".
EYE CREAMS: Eye creams should be a vital part of your skin care regime. The skin around your eyes is considerably thinner and finer than the rest of your face and body and cannot absorb a heavy moisturiser. Therefore, it is important to use a proper eye cream daily to ensure that your eye area gets all of the moisture that it needs.
"Once you are in the habit of a regular basic skin care regime your skin will be a clean canvas letting you get the most out of other products that you use on it, so you can now start to treat any specific problems you may have, like moisturising essential oils for dry skin, or tea tree oil and anti bacterial solutions for blemished skin.
Now you know what to do, start your skin care regime as soon as possible. Once you have seen the results you wi not know how you managed to live so long without it". REMEMBER A GOOD DIET, EXERCISE AND LOTS OF WATER WILL ALSO HELP TO IMPROVE YOUR COMPLEXION".
